Great antenna!

Originally I was using a BR-178-S (1/4 wave, 380 mhz-520 mhz) tuned for GMRS frequencies (462 mhz and 467 mhz) and I was never satisfied. Although the 178 tuned to a 1.1 and would TX fairly well, reception was choppy and RX seemed to be too short giving me an ‘alligator radio’. In fact I discovered my Nagoya NL-R2 rubber duck actually performed better even though the SWR was 1.6. After replacing the coax with LMR-240 and checking connections, this did not solve the problem so I just figured it was due to a cheap radio, shelved the BR-178 and used the Nagoya on the mobile in my Jeep. Then I came across the BR-176-S 5/8 wave that was more specifically tuned in the GMRS bands. I followed the cutting chart and the SWR meter did not move on the first try! TX and RX have greatly increased. In fact, as I was driving this morning I went to sign off in my normal spot where I lose signal and was told I was still coming in strong. Wow! 25+ mile repeaters on 18w are a breeze now and my antenna is mounted inside the hardtop of my Wrangler, not externally. If you have GMRS, I highly recommend these antennas as this is the best one I have used yet, short of the BR-450 with 5.5 dBd gain I use as a base antenna.

I tuned it for the GMRS frequencies and it works great.

I was looking for a low profile antenna and this one is just what I needed. I tuned it for the GMRS frequencies and it works great.

Works fine

Works fine but I do wish the spring wasn’t so stiff and allowed it to flex.

Quality antenna that really reaches out. Replaced a dual band which was 3/4 (lobe was too high).
