Spectacular Image at an Affordable Price Compared to Epson Projectors at Twice the Price
3 Years ago I got an Epson projector that was double the price of this and was SO blown away by it, that I wrote an extremely extensive review of not only the projector but also the technology that it incorporated, along with what to expect from 3D which the 3600e amazingly delivered. Many of the features and quality of that 3600e are included in this 2150. So, If you have the desire to read that in depth review of the big brother to this 2150, you can enlighten yourself about the overall technology that Epson incorporates into their home theater projectors. The 2150 shares many identical features and controls as the 3600e (whose retail price in 2014 was around $2,100). If Amazon’s review filters don’t purge embedded URL links, then you can go to my original Amazon review with this link to find out more, many of whose features apply to the 2150. https://www.amazon.com/gp/review/R2MZ15RKSHR6SS?ref_=glimp_1rv_cl
An excellent new product from Epson.
I didn’t purchase this from amazon, so you won’t see the “verified purchase” label, but I thought another review might helpful regardless. I’m a projector nut, and have seen many projectors and have lots of comparisons to pull from.
This is my first real projector so I don’t have anything significant to compare it to. I was torn between this and the Benq HT2050, but ultimately went with this because I knew I was going to use it sometimes during the day and not just at night in complete darkness, plus I didn’t want to take the chance with the “rainbow” effects. Right now I’m just projecting onto a plain white wall, but have a 120″ fixed frame projector screen on order, but even watching a movie directly on a wall, I am more than satisfied. The picture is extremely sharp and clear and the color is fairly accurate, although that’s just eyeballing it, no testing equipment. One of the pics is in our apartment living room at 11.5 ft from the wall projecting a roughly 110 inch screen. All the walls are white so when there’s a bright scene on the screen, the light coming off of it is enough to wash out the colors a bit, as if I had turned on a light in the room, that’s just how bright the picture is (in “Cinema” mode). I’m hoping a projector screen will make a good bit of difference. The other pics above my computer screen are roughly 80″ diagonal. When I get house, I’ll have more control over the colors in the room.
Thing that sucks is that I had to run a separate wire …
I haven’t been able to cast anything using this projector and the first one I bought had a dead pixel within two weeks of purchase. No problem, it was replaced quickly by Amazon.
We absolutely love this projector!
The colors are bright but accurate. The images move smoothly without any use for the built in interpolation functions. We keep it set on the cinema which is one of the darker settings and it is plenty bright even with the lights on.
good quality and inexpensive
This is my second projector, with my 1st being a more expensive Epson 8100, which after 10 years finally stopped working. This is a good projector for the money. It’s very bright and resolution is very crisp. I bought this model largely because of my previous experience with Epson and the $49 replacement lamps, which are over $200 on most other models. Compared to the more expensive model I had before, this one doesn’t have the greatest setup features. The zoom is only 1.6 which limits the distances where the projector can be placed. Second, the unit only has vertical lens shift, which limits where you can mount it, I will need to move my mount slightly to account for the lack of zoom and horizontal lens shift, but considering the cost that’s ok. What you also don’t get is fine quality focus or lens that you would on +$1000 units. I found the unit hard to focus to a very fine level due to the focus control’s imprecision. Also I noticed that focus degrades as you move from center. Noticeable on the test pattern, less so on content.. The black level on this projector is good but not great, totally watchable but on dark scenes I wished for deeper blacks. Unfortunately, you’ll need to spend closer to $2000 if you crave inky blacks. This projector has a 2 year warranty which is great at this price, and having used it on my previous Epson, I’ll tell you their service is excellent, you’ll have a replacement within a day should you need one. I found the build quality on this unit good for the price point. It’s very light so mounting it is easy.
It’s crazy bright and has some cool features that I haven’t used yet
This thing is impressive. I haven’t had it that long, but my family and I have watched lots of movies on it already and the kids are impressed by how clear it is. It’s not too much different than an LED TV. I have a 100 inch screen that I use and it will go bigger without a problem. It’s crazy bright and has some cool features that I haven’t used yet. We had our room lights on while watching a movie and it was still bright.
Great projector for the price paid.
This projector is replacing a BenQ W1070. I love the projector, is brighter than the BenQ cause is has 2500 lumens and the BenQ 2000 but picture wise I think they are booth on par (same same) Great outstanding colors plus you get the wireless feature with the epson. The only down point is the fan noise when you have it in regular power instead of Eco, but once you have the movie going you won’t hear the fan noise anymore.
Just wont turn on
The projector in itself is great. We bought it during the thanksgiving sale and it worked great. However, one day it just wouldn’t turn on. No damage or anything, just wont turn on. Now, we have a projector that wont work, amazon wont replace because the return window is expired. I have been asked to reach out to the manufacturer for a replacement.
Great price, great picture
Great price, great picture, surprisingly bright even in daylight.
