If you’re wondering why this box is so cheap, it’s because the firmware (software) that runs it is very buggy. It’s still a good deal, as long as you don’t mind putting up with the issues this causes.
Very Capable OTA Recording, Combined with AirPlay Streaming, Makes a Complete Media Solution
I’ve downgraded my review to a 3. The reason is that the programming guide is too buggy. It loses the proper day of the week for weekly recording. We have to check and make sure all our programs are happening on the right day. Also AM/PM gets messed up. We only use 24 hour time. It’s still useful. It picks up channels better than our TV. This unit has so much potential. A software upgrade would be of immense value. Unfortunately, the company is unresponsive. I don’t know if the programming error is on my unit or all units. I called the distributor at Koramzi.com and they were going to send me a new unit to check out. But they never did. They are in contact with the manufacturer in China, but have gotten no resolution of problems from them. They did not keep their word to send a new unit. The good part is that the recording quality is good. Reception is good, and programming works IF you check to ensure that your recording date is correct every few days, especially the day before or on the day of recording something valuable. If the unit resets, you have to check the time clock and your recording schedule. It doesn’t lose channels, but the time clock and programmed dates can change. As other have mentioned, the IR controller is very picky about pointing accurately at the unit.
like someone else mentioned
Working well so far. I have a TV in the garage that I got off Craigslist that originally came from a hotel. Because of that, it doesn’t have a regular OTA tuner built into it. This little item now has me getting crystal-clear HD reception OTA. However, like someone else mentioned, the audio can get out of sync at times. A quick change of the channel and back clears it up. Nothing I care about for a garage TV that usually has a sports event showing, and perfect audio sync doesn’t matter anyways.
Overall not to happy with the quality of the programmed recording feature, but it was okay considering the low price.
So I have purchased this Koramzi after the Mediasonic Homeworx HDMI was giving me problem.
Works as discribed, you can use it on Hd tv using hdmi output. Seems to enhance the antenna signal as well, you can also use it with non hd tv or projector using the rca a/v outs. Only complaint is the remote. Seems very weak, light weight, and major delay in changing channels etc.
capable and versatile
I bought this for use with this antenna:
