Perfect! Saved Me A Ton of $
Saved me from having to buy a new tv or repair! I refuse to pay for cable so I bought an antenna here on Amazon about 8 months ago. Everything seemed to be working fine but suddenly several channels became garbled and after doing a new channel search, some channels didn’t come in at all that I had been watching only 5 minutes prior to the scan. My son told me it must be a bad tuner in my tv so after a week of debating with him I decided to take his advice and buy one of these converter boxes to bypass the tv’s tuner. I settled on this one because it was the 2018 version and had a couple upgrades mentioned. I checked out reviews for the same brand’s 2017 model which were very good.
Cord cutters dream!
Cord cutters dream! What’s in the package? You get the converter, a remote, 4 rubber feet, audio cord, and instruction manual. HDMI cord not included, BUT that’s not a surprise at this price point. The tuner works GREAT, I was able to use it to revive an HDTV that had it’s tuner fail. With this converter and a “flat” antenna, I was able pull in 44 stations! The converter itself is of solid construction mostly metal, and is reasonable size. Ok the reason I took a star off is the software interface, it wasn’t always easy to use especially with regards to the DVR function. That being said, I love that it has a DVR. Also the EPG functions well, it’s NOT a handy as a grid, BUT it does pull in most shows for most channels. I would definately buy it again!
More stable for recording than previous model.
Worth a try if you use an antenna and want to record shows.
Works as described, without a fee
We have needed something like this since the days of the VCR and nothing else was even remotely affordable. This device works as decribed and for $36 you can’t really go wrong. The only thing that it needs is a way to pause recording so that the commecials can be cut out. Now for some advice…plane and simple… I recommend that you use a quad-core processor. I would hav gladly paid $60 if it had that, and a way to eliminate the commercials. Thanks a lot for providing this device!
Grab this if you need a inexpensive tv tuner to add to an existing setup that can’t get OTA signals and want extra options.
I haven’t used this a ton yet, but I think it is pretty good. I tested out the ability to pause tv when a storage device is attached and it worked great. I used an old 2.5 inch USB 320 gb drive I had sitting around. At first I was skeptical of the v18 version because all the packaging didn’t reference that other than a sticker, but Mediasonic confirmed I got the correct item. I also confirmed with the previous version that they have a different hardware version listed in the system menu. I am using this for my projector that doesn’t have a tuner, so it works to meet my needs. The software seems to be lacking and a little hard to use so I take off a star. It would be nice to have something like this that is open source so people could develop a better software with a better interface. I can’t speak to how useful the full DVR capabilities will be with the lacking software, but I look forward to trying it out.
Great value for the money! Great recording quality!
This product really captures a high quality HD recording. We have a cheap HD antenna attached to it, and we were able to detect over 60 channels. We use this as our broadcast channel DVR more than anything else. A 1 hour recording takes up about 5.8 gb, which is not bad for an HD recording. The guide will load up several days worth of programming per channel.
I bought this product from Amazon a week ago. Setup was a snap, and the unit performs perfectly. My cheapo indoor antenna picks up about 150 channels, although I bought the unit only to record over-the-air (unlocked) PBS science and nature shows in HD. The timer recording function is especially useful.
Mediasonic ATSC Over the Air Receiver for Smart TVs
If you have a newer big screen smart TV, you probably didn’t get a built in over the air receiver. If you use cable or stream your content, you don’t get most of the local TV channels. I use a flat indoor TV antenna mounted on a window with tape running into the Mediasonic receiver. In the DFW area, I can get around 30 over the air local channels. This is great when the cable goes out. The unit makes it easy to find and program the desired local channels. You can also set it up to record TV programs one time or a series from over the air if you attach a USB stick or external USB hard drive.
