While superb sound quality is the ultimate goal of any home audio system, the realities of budget and even aesthetics often force compromises in sound quality. Well, the time for compromise is over. Now you can have it all – great sound, great looks, small size, and an unbelievably low price. The Monoprice Premium 5.1-Channel Home Theater System surpasses all expectations for sound quality in a small package. The four satellite and the single center speakers each use a 3 polypropylene mid-range driver and a 3/4 aluminum dome tweeter. They can handle up 100 watts of power and have an impedance of 8 ohms. The satellite and center channel speakers handle frequencies from 110Hz to 20KHz 3dB, with the crossover between the mid-range and tweeter drivers set to 3.5KHz. The powered subwoofer features an 8 downward firing speaker driven by a 200 watt amplifier. It handles frequencies from 30Hz to 150Hz (-10dB) and uses a variable crossover from 40-150Hz. The satellites measure only about 6.9 x 4.3 x 4.3 (HWD) and weigh about 2.9 lbs. each, making them easy to mount almost anywhere. The center channel speaker measures about 4.3 x 10.2 x 4.3 (HWD) and weighs 3.0 lbs. Both the satellite and center speakers are equipped with a universal 1/4 threaded insert mounting options and have rear-firing ports, so they sound best when there is some breathing room behind them. The subwoofer is a 12.6 cube and weighs about 20 lbs. It features four large rubber feet, which keep the downward firing driver off the floor. It includes both line and speaker level stereo inputs, so it can be used with any amplifier.
I cannot find any compelling reason why you shouldn’t buy these speakers right now
I’ll start this by destroying my credibility. I am not an audiophile, and this is my first surround sound system worth the name. I did, however, do a massive amount of research before buying these. This is going to be long, so the TLDR on this is:
Amazing for the price.
Everything said about these speakers is true. Great performance for the price. They sound like a much more expensive set. One thing I did have 1 speaker dead out of the box, the maker wasn’t interested in getting me a replacement quickly they wanted to take their own time. Amazon as always was excellent they sent me a whole new set overnight and I sent these back.
Best value for your dollar.
If you do some research on the internet you will find that these speakers come highly recommended by a popular review site. The speakers are attractive and sturdy, with solid connections. I bought these to replace a cheap set of speakers that came with one of those “surround sound in a box” sets from years ago. Instantly the comfortable listening level for my surround sound system dropped. On the old speakers I struggled with dialogue and always had the volume cranked up. These, everything is crystal clear at half the level. The rear surrounds are great. Subtle, and clear. At first I thought the speakers were a little bright, but as they break in, the sound keeps improving. Best value for your dollar.
Great value, great sound
I got this to pair with my Denon 7.2 home theater, and it’s great!

Great system for the price or at three times the price. Well built, great definition and soundstage spacing. Even in my less than ideal set up (over a corner fireplace in a larger room) I get great surround sound. Plenty of bass and excellent detail. The only one I like better is the Energy Classic but it wasn’t available when I bought this system.
Can’t beat the quality for this price
Really great set for the price. People are always surprised when I tell them I have a Monoprice brand system.
… settled on these as the price was just too good and the reviews were
I needed to replace some home theater speakers on a budget and had considered a few options but settled on these as the price was just too good and the reviews were, for the most part, excellent. I am very glad I did as they sound great, and if you need a set of speakers to get your home theater setup going you can make plenty of worse choices than these. At some point I intend to upgrade the fronts to floor standing speakers but for now, these work great with my Onkyo HT-RC460 receiver.
Great sound, great looks, don’t trust the used option.
I would give the performance of these speakers 5-stars, but unfortunately they were not “used-like new” when the arrived. There were big scuffs and dings on the speakers, but most egregiously, two of the three screws holding the subwoofer in the housing were missing and it just flopped out when I pulled it out of the box. I’m not expecting perfection when I buy used, but that seems a bit excessive. Still though, once I replaced the screws and touched up the marks, I was very pleased with the performance.
Great little and inexpensice 5.1 surround sound system.
I have the Energy surround sound system in another room.
