Onkyo TX-RZ820 THX Certified Reciever.
We have had many Onkyo receivers over the years and we have always stuck with Onkyo because of the consistent performance they have given us. Our current Onkyo receiver is the TX-NR809. It has been an excellent receiver, but we quickly learned that it does not have the ability to do justice to all the nuances of the new 4K TV’s that have recently become the rage. So, we purchased the TX-RZ820 which does have a complete 4K network and which, like the NR809, is also THX certified. It was the closest thing to the NR809 that we could find at a reasonable price. So far, so good, Plenty of hdmi outlets and excellent sound quality. It also has directions for setting up the speakers which is the same nice feature the NR809 had. There are a number of other features, some of which we will probably never use so I can’t give you input in those areas. However, you can see what they are by looking at the specs for the RZ820. We would recommend this receiver. We’ve had it in service for a couple of months now without any problems.
Plan your speaker purchase carefully
I’m not going to dive to deep. I’ve had the receiver for a month or so and I really like it so far. When combined with the Fluance reference series speakers, the sound is absolutely incredible. I want to share my cautionary tale.
“Initial Setup” isn’t perfect
Ok so the first impression was in size of the receiver. Take your measurements first! I had to reconfigure the placement of my components but it’s not a huge issue for me, although it may be for you…Anyway, I went through the “Initial setup” process by Onkyo and found it pretty easy to use AND the sound configuration works for my living room. Some have said it didn’t work out for various reasons but it worked for me. (I have hardwood floors which makes a big difference in sound configuration and reverberation of sound) I used the enclosed microphone and each speaker is well balanced for my seating arrangement. WiFi setup was a breeze, I don’t use Zone 2 so I skipped that step.
Wow, what great customer advice over the phone!
It’s a little complex to operate at first, but the customer service is phenomenal!
This receiver gives you amazing sound. The THX feature is worth it as it adjusts levels so that you can hear the effect even at low volumes. I have very large speakers and this unit has no difficulty producing the sound with range and thundering lows without being boomy. Onkyo has truly made the next generation in this receiver. It is was better than the TX656 I tried last year that did sound as good as my 15 year old Onkyo receiver is wanted to replace.
All I can say is wow!!!!!! Woke my Klipsch R series up. Sounds great still adjusting everything in probably take a few weeks. I did try the microphone set up but didn’t like so I set it manually and sounds a lot better. Still this is no issue. Great picture great sound great product. Would recommend to anybody.
Atmos and EVERYTHING else too
Flawless so far, I have Onkyo before and will no doubt buy them again at the next tech seachange
A bargain but with warts – more than I expected for the price
I replace an aging Sony DA5ES (110 watt, 6ch).
good sound. i would recommend
very user friendly with setup. good sound. i would recommend.
Great versatility and good sound power from this unit
Great versatility and good sound power from this unit. It has been reliable and durable in my use. This takes home receivers up a notch to a higher level of stereo listening.
