Complex and Sophisticated…It will Knock Your Socks Off!

It takes a lot of work to set up a surround sound system…unlike those who would rather take a short cut and just do the sound bar thing, which is the EASY way out…I’d rather do the more complex task of setting up my home theater system.

Excellent modern tech! Set it correctly!

This receiver is a direct upgrade from my early 2000s Onkyo of the same wattage. The difference in technology is astounding. The Bluetooth, networking, app control, programming…all are features that make my old receiver look like a boat anchor. The sound itself is crisp and pure. Now that said, even though I try as best I can to get this receiver to produce the same, or similar, LFE response across my large 8 ohm Onkyo speakers that I got with my Onkyo I can’t do it. I’ve turned all of my speakers to “large.” I turned the sub control off. I boosted the graphical equalizer lower tones up full. I went through every DSP preset and adjusted them accordingly. My “bass” tone is at the max dB setting. It just doesn’t have the “thump” I’m used too. Would a sub make a difference? Probably. But I didn’t need one before, so why should I need one now? So for the lack of low tone capability I took off a single star.

easy setup, amazing sound, runs all my devices

damn easy setup, not sure if the network features are all that necessary, but at least i can easily update software/firmware on the receiver. I didn’t bother setting up the antenna for the radio. Was very happy i could “skip” the input selections of things that weren’t plugged in, even though i had to do that manually. I was able to rename each input (NintendoSwitch,Computer) but it auto saw my chromecast and ps4. Chromecast works great for streaming everything. Ps4 pro connected via HDMI, the remote control that came with the receiver paired automatically and nicely to my PS4, all the play pause stop buttons work and i didn’t do a thing. wiring the speakers was easy, i went with banana plugs and they have a very solid connection. I wish there were two more HDMI inputs or more, having only 4 is a small limit. the receiver works great, every time i had an issue it was with the device connected to the receiver, not the receiver itself. It’s a BIG box though, easily stands 6 inches off the side table. overall finish and look is high quality, sound is amazing.

Great receiver at an affordable price. If you want a better sound quality than the best sound bar woofer setup. Look no further…I’m running this with a Polk Audio setup and it sounds amazing. I’m running a powered 12″ sub woofer, 5+1.

Very happy with purchase

So far so good.

A Smart Receiver – Yamaha remains the Choice

I bought this unit to control audio to (4) 8″ speakers on a covered porch – maybe overkill, but I’m ecstatic with the sound. The receiver does everything that I expected it to do … and well.

Sounds okay and is easy to get up and running recommend for simple low cost AV

I got this yesterday, June 3. I bought it solely to connect the television’s audio to an AV receiver via the ARC connection. My old but GREAT sounding Pioneer SC-35 was not HDCP 2.2 compatible, and the new 4K TV insisted it wanted only that. I was not about to run out and buy a new SC-35 equivalent AV receiver without testing the waters to see it I could make it work and if it was worth it. So I bought this inexpensive AV receiver, slightly used. It did not work at the outset. After I updated the firmware, and turned off BOTH the TV and the AV receiver, then both back on, it worked perfectly. So I now have decent sound and a 4K tv working together. The Yamaha is not their top of the line. It is older and kind of near the bottom. Nonetheless, it sounds okay and is easy to get up and running.

Really tried to like it.

I purchased this to replace a 15 years old Sony receiver, oh boy, was I wrong. I have a 5.1 speaker system, with Sony speakers rated 100Watts, center 120Watts and a powered sub-woofer at 120Watts I read in the reviews that it would work fine with 100Watts speakers, so I went ahead and I purchased this receiver for all the bells and whistles this Yamaha offers, the interface is beautiful, functional and offers a wide variety of choices but it would not fill my speakers, nor my ears with the clear sound of my previous Sony receiver, I got in very highs just a screechy sound in the speakers and a muffled bass in the sub. I happen to own a 5.1 set of Yamaha speakers rated 70Watts which I then connected to this receiver, they worked fine, clear beautiful sound but still lacked the power and the bass I wanted, I tweaked the option and controls, which this Yamaha offers but could not find my liking, I honestly and vehemently tried to like this receiver but I just could not, so I returned it.

This receiver is awesome! Very easy to install and with the included mike, quick to set up all the various speaker levels, even identifying is there are lead swaps. Love the bluetooth and ethernet connections. I stream my spotify and pandora all the time. I also love the 4K hdmi i/o. What clear picture on the big screen, matching the spectacular sound from the 5.1!

Wonderful, “clean” sound and good mix of features

Maybe it’s becaue I have alway had steroids, but I can not tell you how impressed I am with this receiver! First, “pure” sound. When set for it, this gives the cleanest sound I have heard south of the $2000 level! It also has a lot of different effects to change the sound to your liking. ( belive it or not, most people don’t like pure sound as much as “ colored” sound that you get from most amps. The “web radio” sounds fantastic. I just wish they had more choices build in. I’m also very happy with music streamed from my iPad and iPhone. Very fast setup and great results. Of course the best sound source is from disks. .
