Really Great AV Receiver
I just replaced a Yamaha receiver with this new one. The one I previously had was 12 years old and set up for THX surround which doesn’t seem to be used much anymore. This new Yamaha RX-V683BL really rocks. I love the fact that it can be set up via an Android app on my phone. It has really clean sound. I only have one complaint: for whatever reason, they didn’t put a switched outlet on the back. On all my previous receivers, htey had one. Now, I have to have my sub-woofer on at all times which I don’t like to do. Other than that, this receiver is great.

Fantastic. Upgraded from RX-V673 as I suspect the HDMI circuit board failed. This receiver paired with my LG 65″ OLED 4K Ultra TV and my Samsung 4K Ultra Blu-Ray plyer is sick. Buy good HDMI 2.0 cables and update firmware on all components. The sound difference is dramatic.
It’s excellent. Very easy to set up
Bought this to replace another Yamaha receiver I’ve had for about 15 years. It’s excellent. Very easy to set up, but has functions that are best used by younger people familiar with all the new technology. I use this receiver at only about 50% of its real capacity but – after having Yamaha receivers since the early ’80s, I can’t see ‘fixing what ain’t broke’, IYGMD.. My ONLY (very small) beef is that the owner’s manual comes on a DVD and, unless one wants to print out about 180+ pages, it’s kind of a pain to have to go to the PC and read the manual. A full printed version should be with the unit. Other than that, I love this receiver!
Great Sound at a Great Value!
If this is installed in a cabinet, it WILL overheat and shutoff! I bought an AC Infinity AIRCOM T9 and the issue is solved.
Works beautifully with said TV
Upgraded from an Onkyo TX-SR608, which served me extremely well through the 1080p era. My 10 years old Samsung HDTV finally failed, so I upgraded to their latest QLED 4k display. Subsequently upgraded my AV receiver to be fully 4k compatible. Works beautifully with said TV, my PS4, DirecTV STB, HTPC and even my ancient PS3. Sound IS crisp, clear and robust. Setup is easy and room filling audio is the norm. Love that this receiver runs MUCH cooler than the SR608, which I ran with temperature sensitive PC case fans for years. This is a fantastic receiver for the price, no question.
Flawless Product, Easy to Install, Great Customer Service!
Just replaced my Yamaha RX-483 with this one. Amazing receiver, easiest electronic component I have ever set up. . Plugged in all the components and i didn’t even need to program it for my 4K screen, my universal remote or anything else. It worked flawlessly! When I called their customer service about how to hook up a transmitter to it for a new wireless headset I had just purchased they were great help there. (Headset company does not list a customer service number. Yamaha is one of three electronics companies that, in my opinion, have the best customer service out there).
Amazing sound and a great bargain
This 4K receiver is a MAJOR upgrade from my 6-7 year old previous (1080P) Yamaha AV Receiver in sound quality and clarity (compare the THD or Yamaha products to other brands and you’ll see what I mean). The Dolby ATMOS/DTS-X is amazing with 7.1 surround sound, and the 4K video passthrough is flawless. Also saved $200 by purchasing the 683BL (2017 model) as the 2018 model is out soon. Remote has a lot of buttons but getting used to it, and once I got the sound where I like it I pretty much just use the on/off and volume controls now. The auto setup was crazy easy and the external microphone worked great setting up the sound dynamics (workedmuch better than on my older Yamaha receiver where I found it better to adjust each of the speakers manually/separately). Not using the MusicCast yet. but nice to know it’s there if I do any “whole home” future upgrades.
Another solid product from Yamaha
Great mid-range Yamaha receiver. I’m using it as a 5.1, not a 7.2, and mostly for TV viewing. Plenty of power, reasonably easy to use (I ignore most of the buttons on the remote), and the YPAO feature is very nice.
Quality made product.
Quality at its best that you can expect from a Yamaha product. The only con I see is like other people have already said, the remote control buttons are very small. Only time will tell how long this unit will last.
Replaced our 20 year old model to connect more speakers.
This is our second Yamaha. We upgraded from a 20 year old model which is still working just fine, it was just couldn’t handle more speakers. This model works just as well as the older model. We’ll stick with this brand.
